Why is meditation important?

why-is-meditation-important-for-witchcraft

This post is directed towards our newest members who must feel a bit lost when it comes to meditation. What’s good, what’s bad and what is ok to feel while going into it? Well I will touch upon these as well as the importance of meditating for witchcraft and doing stuff with magick.

Meditation is one of the biggest driving forces of what is to come after it. Just like any ritual you are about to do, you need to prepare your sage, altar, sacred space, circle and herbs. In this sense meditation prepares your mind for what is to come and is crucial if you want the spell to work. If you cannot concentrate there is a big chance you will be shooting empty bullets of energy through the room and not get anywhere. Also you need to respect it, take your time to fall into it, if you’re rushing a meditation you won’t end up focusing which leads me to my do’s don’t s.

– Never meditate if you don’t feel like it (so never do spell working). It really is that important for you to feel in the right place and time and most of all for you to want it. You feel like someone is disturbing your balance, you’re tired or you can’t stop thinking of the exam coming tomorrow (or that cute guy\girl’s eyes) then just leave it. Unlike working out you can’t force meditation to work unless you feel like it. Make sure to choose a space and time when you’re most comfortable( when everyone is asleep, in your bed or during daytime when people are off to work). Always make it count!

– Don’t do the yogi stuff you see on YouTube. Unless you feel like this position is right for you don’t do it. You might prefer simply sitting down or laying down over to crossing your legs under your butt and tangling your arms together in the shape of a dragon heart. While those positions you have seen online allow you to breathe better, count your intakes of air and take them only to your diaphragm then breathe out, they aren’t good for people who have just started out. Take your time, these things will come with practising it. When you are not distracted by pain in any way anymore you can cross your legs in unimaginable ways.

– When we say listen to music, don’t listen to Yonce’s new album. Put something without lyrics on, something comforting if you are one of those people who like to meditate on music. Try Peter Gundry on YouTube or any other orchestral band.

– Candles, herbs and insences are good but not unnecessary. As I have mentioned in previous posts it is not crucial that you have them always while you’re meditating. If you’re out around the ocean or on a hill – don’t bring them. It’s no use. They are ultimately a physical representation for concentration. If you already have it in you, don’t bother.

– Don’t go over to performing rituals if you can’t concentrate while meditating. And that is a big don’t. If you can’t focus your mind, you can’t focus your energy, so use it as a stepstone and practise it for as long as you need.

– How would you know it’s enough? Well, when you catch yourself being able to concentrate to the nothingness in front of you for about a minute without letting thoughts in, you have reached a good basic level of it.

– How do you focus? Imagine everything as a silent movie, even when you start thinking about a picture that popped up in your mind, simply discard it and throw it as far as possible away from you. The second you start doing it without noticing, you are on the right track.

– How long do I need to stay concentrated for? Start small, try to keep your thoughts away by envisioning running water and the sound it makes while splashing or the sun rising for about a minute and build it up from there. Keep in mind that for some of the rituals you have to stay focused for about 30 minutes, so you take it off from there.

Triple astral projections – Testing limits

triple-astral-projections-meditation-dranallska

I have always believed that meditation is one of the basic elements of ritual work and since I am actively using it as a platform to perform some of them on ( not using much physical tools such as crystals, incenses or enchanted products alike) I figured I’d share an astral projection idea I recently tested.

First off – relax

Blank yourself out as much as you can and start counting from 1 on to whichever number you find will set you into the universe ( if I am bold and am preparing for a rather tiring ritual I would try to get to 100) . Now you need to block off any of your own thoughts, as per usual. For me it works just fine by simply invisioning a transparent cup-like veil that surrounds me and burns any thoughts away. As for the thoughts themselves – you can imagine them escaping the back of your head as if someone drilled a hole there. A black mist is leaving you and the veil as it fills up the room but cannot touch you.

Right, now breathe.

Breathe more. Stop breathing! (Just kidding). Focus and invision yourself sitting or lying wherever you are, look at yourself, stare if you have to and focus on a transparent-looking figure that looks exactly like you escaping your body, tied to your hand with a cord. Now look from its eyes and fly around the room. Look at the corners and focus.

Now comes fun.

Escape the place as you fly upwards to the sky. Imagine your house getting smaller and smaller in the distance ( for better envisionment you can use Google maps). Fly up until you are in the sky.

Now think of your Shangri la – of a place where you feel most at home ( forest, at the beach) and sit there, leave the soil bind itself to you – small branches of wood are keeping you at place, bound to the ground, forming a cradle or the sand are touching you warmly, covering you on this little piece of earth floating in the sky. Feel the wind and hear the noises. Breathe in the air.

As for this part, after you feel connected to the first place do the same thing for the second – imagine you escaping from your body, you looking at it and going over to another piece of land. Midst your flights the cord between your projections marks the route in your imagination, so you can see a sign forming.

It is possible that you feel split as you are travelling and leaving more and more from you behind and it can be possibly dangerous if you forget or get zoned out of your mind and do not return the absolute same route around. The return needs to mirror the parh until there.

I find that this not as simple of a meditation really just opens up the senses and fulfills your need for earthliness. It is a great prep for any rather complex ritual work. Well you might have to take a break afterwards and just give yourself some time to recuperate before doing anything else but it definetly is worth it.

I am so so sorry for the long post but I hope you found it interesting for the least, if you don’t want to try it out. Let me know either way and thank you for reading it.

Religion in the Middle Ages vs. Nowadays

modern-witch-witchcraft-religion-middle-ages-now

Have you ever had trouble timing your practise with the speed of events that are happening around you? The world feels like spinning and all real life hits you hard. What if the same thing happened to our practising ancestors? What if Wicca was not feared but rather forgotten? We all know that history is always written for the winners and that events such as the “Witchcraft plague” can be very influencial and threatening to anyone practising but were they really? And on the other hand, how have we, by doing Witchcraft, changed in our century and eventually how does our practise differ from the one beforehand? And how do we “do” Wicca nowadays?

Let’s start with the start.

How was Witchcraft practised before ?

Around 12th to 13th century, Witchcraft was an expression form.

What, you may ask? Indeed, I would answer. Witchcraft was much like an artistic form of expression since the Church’s views were not necessarily shared by the people living in the pieces of land controlled by it. Witchcraft was heresy because it was challenging to the views of the former and all its supporters. To add up, there was also the Inquisition that was pushing the church in numerous countries like nowadays Spain, Germany and others, and was teaching the people that any faith outside of the Church was “bad faith”. As Burton Russel 1974 puts it, the witch was “a rebel against the church”.

This Venn diagram puts Witchcraft on the middle of all old terms, in which it is located between religion and the magical world view. Bear in mind, Magick was contemporary at the time and it took many forms in the Middle Ages. Anthropologists and historians, much like today, percieved it as a “superstition”. Witchcraft was about alligning oneself with the stars, planets and generally putting the model of man within the universe but as a microscopic part. And so magick was a social belief. As pointed out on the diagram, there were different types of it. Low magick was the closest to Witchcraft. Now, low magick, as worded by the anthropologist Alexander Hales, was maleficum, alas centered around evil-doing and high-magick was divinatio, alas divine. And so black and white magick came to be built up off that. You can read more about that in Jeffrey Russels’ “Witchcraft in the Middle Ages” 1972.

But how does that serve us?

Witchcraft was, and still is, a craft deviating from the Church’s beliefs. It was a riot, if you will, against the omnipresent power of Christianity and a cry against the one and only power then. You have to understand the historical background too – the Church was, for instance in England, the sole owner of land – the so called fifs were lended out to the vassals that, on their own accord, collected all taxes and export from the peasents that were working the land, and were giving all this to the king or the church. And so, to be alive and to work, you had to comply, very much like slavery, and you didn’t have a chance to be yourself.

So what is witchcraft nowadays?

It is a combustion of all different views one may have on religion, whether atheistic or christian, no matter. It is a unificator of all people that believe in something + the nature. However, Wicca is much more solitary, unless one is in a coven, and is getting accepted as a religious view in some countries, such as the US.

But why is it different?

One may argue, that because the church’s monopoly is not as influential as before, believers have much more access to old practises and information, making witchcraft and wicca both progress as one. But I have one question on my mind, is the spark the same as before?

I personally think it is, we may have other goals and be money-driven in a exploitive society where 9 hours of our regular days are taken up with sitting in front of a computer but exactly this mundane living has brought us much more to care about as to the people we are inside. The wish to get better and to know more has led us to realising that we are, after all, all children of something greater than our mothers. We have evolved and progressed. From there on, crystals and candles and physical objects should not define our practise, but we ourselves and the freedom we have by living at out own dedicated piece of land and also living in our own conditions and minds, working for ourselves, should always be the driving power behind it.

Do no harm and love each other, as well as who was there before you. Cherish them.

The laughing Buddha Meditation

laughing-buddha-meditation-witchcraft

Sit back, relax and close your eyes. Let your mind run around and acknowledge all that information going through, in and out your brain without focusing on it. Pictures with no sound. Questions with no answer needed. Not now.

Let them roll for a bit.

Now focus on your breathing. Are you using your nose? If yes then where do you feel the air accumulating? Right over your sun split? Let it fill your belly, go for deep breaths with pauses of 3 seconds in between.

Are you using your mouth? Then follow the air to the top of your tummy abd let it go only there, not further. Let it go in and out lightly with 3 second pauses.

After your breathing is in synch and in one with you think of the brightest, happiest memories you have. Think of recent and past ones that made you smile, made you feel warm like there is no other moment you would rather be in. Let the videos roll but in reality do not smile. Do not focus on your body outside but inside. If you feel like laughing then let it jiggle in your body but do not let it go past your throat. Laugh with your body, not with your mouth.

Step into one of those memories. Pause it. Move your arms and legs and look around. Let it go and go into the other one. Feel it.

You can stop whenever you feel like you must. This meditation is great for a start of the day or when you are in a dark place and need a tiny resting one.

Enjoy!

Protect yourself meditation

protect-yourself-meditation-magick

I thought I’d drop a few lines related to protection and how to cover yourself up from all those nasty aura-eaters out there. The problem with being some sorts of empathic is that a lot of energies will be drawn to you, as a matter of fact it probably will not be only because you are hyper-sensitive.

Either way or the other, you need to protect yourself. If you are in public and you feel like you don’t want to communicate with any people around whatsoever, you can just wrap yourself up in a little bubble and wave the energies goodbye.

But how and why is this important?

Empath or not, it is crucial that you know the ways of protection before you jump into anything else, like in a lot of other situations in life. Casting bubbles will not only help with your own energy level drops throughout the day but it will make it easier to block off bad any negative frequencies from people who don’t have much else to give.

You do it by simply envisioning strays of light exiting your chest and forming around you in a little bubble. Now, you don’t have to cast it nor meditate on it but just imagine it being there and protecting you with every step you take. If you think you know the colors of your aura, you can just imagine them hugging you, this is even better.

Keep it up for as much time as possible and then drop it off.

It does great in keeping away annoying people that want to talk you up and it’s a great way to protect yourself if you any frightening situation.

Meditation Magick and it’s uses

meditation-magick-uses-witchcraft

Have you ever felt like you just need your own piece of space and you just can’t get it because of your ultra-dirty roommate who leaves all their clothes around the place or your family snooping around? Or you’re just searching for a way to better your practise?

Either way, let me tell you why meditation magick is powerful.

1. You don’t need anything to do it.

Whether you’re a student or you just don’t want to invest in all different kinds of goodies, you can just use the power of your mind. The spell requires herbs? Great, you can imagine, feel and smell them while putting them together in your imaginary sacred space. Oh, but you also need to call out the elements and they are supposed to help you? There you can have the biggest fire you’ve ever imagined. Meditation magick is minimalistic in it’s core and simply substitutes your whole altar with an imaginary one. No money spent, no preparation time, no effort.

2. You just ground yourself and meditate

Now, it’s important that you get your senses to help you – you have to be able to smell, see and feel all the obke2cts you will be working with and you need to be able to create your altar in your head without being distracted every five minutes by your cat which is bugging the pickle out of you. Ignore the twitching and diziness and sleepiness during and focus on what you are doing than what is around you.

3. Energy works

Since all you will be doing is putting energy into non-existent objects, you are already on the level of consciousness you need to be in, in order for you to do the spell. Everything you do during the meditation will result in the energy exchange we need for a spell to work.

4. It’s actually safer

It’s much safer than messing up the circle and finally forgetting to close it, since so much can attach itself on you. However during meditation magick you basically don’t need to have any fear of messing something up since you’re not working with physical spaces.

It is generally a great way to get your craft to another level and squeeze out all possibilities. It’s fun and tge only thing you need is space for you to focus.

Meditate away and let me know how it went.

How to feed your deities

how-to-feed-your-deities-witchcraft-diety-2019

Anyone who’s ever worked with a deity would know that more often than not, you have to feed them and offer them gifts. I would argue, however, that a simple token of faith and good fortune would not necessarily have more value than honoring them with energy. Let me tell you why.

1. In my opinion, believing in a deity and praying\working with it already feeds it

See, Gods and Goddesses exist because of the faith humanity has put in them and continue to be who they are by us actively being involved with them. I strongly believe, from there on, that a certain forgotten deity would pretty much be looking like an elderly person with rotting clothes who is malnourished and mistreated and vice versa the more popular ones would be thriving and be able to live more and more every step in the way, as I think that they are not timeless. I believe that they may disappear if not enough people work with them, making them echoes of a past greatness. Think about it, similarly to how you would gift a friend a materialistic gift versus giving them your undivided attention. The latter is much more impactful. Now think about entrusting a deity with your energy – it is much more useful for them than just what this “little human made for me and burried in the ground that I can’t use”.

2. Working with a deity means passing energy to them

Whatever we do, whether we involve them in our rituals or call upon them to aid or protect us, we spend an x amount of energy to do so. From there on, energy is returned back to us when a successful ritual or magick work has taken place, ultimately feeding a part of our lives (money, health, work, relationships). This energy manifests into karma, once upon it enters our daily cycle and changes or rather betters the course of direction of our lives. Hence, when we work with something, we pass energy to it.

3. Meditation and energy-giving is the highest sign of support one can give.

Think about it, if you pass energy to them via meditation, let it draw out the way you draw it into yourself while being in nature but reverse the process, is a much more powerful token than “gifting” them something materialistic like something connected with them.

Please note, those are my thoughts. Let me know if this makes sense to you!

Blessed be.

How to escape bad karma and negativity

bad-karma-negativity-witchcraft-wicca

So all of us have been in a position where we have been wondering what is wrong with us and why is everything going upside down.

But why do we think this bad karma is really bad?

In actuality, it all depends on your mental perception of karma. See, when you have bad luck – your car suddenly won’t start and you have to get the train and then it is late by 15 minutes. On top of that, you’ve just had the most awful, stressful and disgusting day at work in a while and you feel so broken after having put your hours in, that you don’t even want to talk to anybody.

You know that feeling, right?

So, what I am getting at is to have you change your own attitude towards such days.

But how, you ask?

Simply think that everything on this planet is interchangable and never gets lost. Just like energy, bad luck comes and hits you first, before good luck can strike. Instead of frustrating over the current moment, think beyond it. Take this momentum and laugh at it. If you have had such bad luck, and for years, it will turn around and you will enjoy happiness and prosperity for a long period of time. Take it as a challenge from luck to test if you can endure all bad things so you can be rewarded with good ones. You may not be able to influence your whole life but you can force your mind to recreate the world around you.

Stop thinking about the moment and start thinking about the future. Never trust what you see but what you feel.
